Top-Down Bottom-Up
2015
9 x 12 inches
Inkjet print on dibond with L-hook
Edition of 10
This edition began with a monotype print using both an additive and a reductive process; coming at it by two seemingly opposite ends and note taking with classic Bic inspired blues and reds. The approach is a top-down bottom-up, as in image and thought processing, speech perception, business management, software development, and computer programming. This piece began as a print that was scanned and output as an inkjet print then finally mounted to lightweight aluminum sheets sandwiching a polyethylene core. This way up.

I’ve been a lot of places, seen so many faces
2015
Dimensions variable
Tee shirts, dye, bleach, cardboard hanger
Edition of 8
I’ve been a lot of places, seen so many faces is an edition of seven found tee shirts that have been altered with hand made methods and simple materials (bleach, resist and fabric dye). On top of each shirt, Slade has painted an image of a face that is derivative of a Matisse drawing. This image too has been appropriated (from a mysterious hand painted tee shirt that she has had for over a decade). The original face images are taken from a variety of sources, allowing the shirts to become a complex stack of cultural reference: the tie-dyes, logos and imagery on the found shirts acting as the base or, “first” image.
