M+B, a contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles, seeks a friendly, hard-working and organized professional for a full-time Gallery Assistant position. We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented problem-solver who is willing to go above and beyond. Applicants should be highly organized, able to prioritize and willing to undertake basic and complex tasks with equal diligence and enthusiasm. He or she should project a positive, pleasant demeanor, dress professionally and enjoy working with the public as well as with co-workers.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include greeting clients and assisting them in the gallery, assisting the directors and registrar with a variety of projects, event organization, database entry and managing and updating the gallery contact list. Administrative duties also include maintaining and organizing gallery supplies, opening and closing the gallery, answering phones, managing the owner’s and directors’ calendars and travel arrangements and being responsible for the day-to-day look and cleanliness of the gallery. The Gallery Assistant will also be responsible for scheduling third parties such as installers, photographers and interns. Art handling skills such as packing and wrapping for some storage and shipping is also a part of the position.
Responsibilities also include physical and digital image archive maintenance, coordinating press materials and responding to press inquiries as well as archiving gallery press, maintaining organization of the press and image archives, updating social media pages, updating the website, managing the email blasts for the gallery and keeping artist’s press packs and sales packs up to date. The Gallery Assistant will also be responsible for organizing art fair materials and applications. The ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a must.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience with Mac platform, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Adobe (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Bachelor’s degree (Art History is a plus)
- Excellent phone and email etiquette
- Good communication skills
- A can do and positive attitude
- Prior gallery or museum experience is preferred.
