Description
Make Room Los Angeles is seeking a full-time Director. The Director’s primary role will be nurturing and maintaining relationships with a roster of Gallery artists, institution partners, clients and vendors. Acting as a key representative of the Gallery in artist relations, the Director will cultivate and maintain relationships with Gallery artists. The Director, working closely with the Gallery owner, will identify and strategize goals for Gallery artists, including exhibitions and scholarship. The Director will be a primary point of contact with colleagues in the field to promote those artists through internal and external exhibitions and institutional acquisitions. The successful candidate will have worked closely with artists in a curatorial or project management capacity.
The successful candidate will be deeply passionate about a range of international contemporary art worlds, bringing their social capital, networks, and curiosity to further the Gallery’s mission. Poise and professionalism is essential as there will be significant exposure to client viewings, the presentation of artworks at the Gallery, and providing exhibitions walkthroughs on behalf of the gallery. We are seeking a proactive, energetic and experienced individual to join this dynamic and fast evolving team.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but not limit to artist liaison; client support and development; and working collaboratively with staff to oversee exhibitions, art fairs, and day to day gallery logistics.
Requirements
- Degree in Art History or the following areas: Museum Studies, Arts Management, Curatorial Studies, with MA preferred
- 5 years of professional experience in the visual arts (gallery, auction house, museum), with 3-years in management or supervisory capacity.
- Participation and visibility in professional networks
- Established client and business partner network
- Demonstrated public speaking skills
- Multiple verbal/written language skills preferred (Chinese or Korean fluency preferred)
- Media/Press relations is a plus
- Flexibility for domestic and international travel

How to apply
The position is Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM, with occasional evening commitments. The position starts immediately. Salary commensurate with experience, benefits package including healthcare and paid vacation which increases with tenure.
