Description
Carla is seeking a Managing Editor/ Operations Manager to join its team. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, the ability to self-direct, multitask, problem solve, and who be a representative of our organization out in the community. Since Carla is a very small team, the ideal applicant will have varied skills that include a robust digital /organizational skillset as well as experience with copy-editing and written language, events, and member communications.

This is a full-time payroll position starting at $28/hour (pay commensurate with experience). The position includes a benefits package. This is a hybrid position including a work from home and work from Carla’s West Adams office. Attendance and work at Carla events on occasional weekends and evenings will also be required.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and manage production on Carla’s print magazine including overseeing various processes, contributing to pitch discussions, visualizing the layout, and managing communication with Carla’s production staff
- Manage workflow for Carla’s online reviews
- Manage Carla’s copy-editing and fact-checking processes
- Managing Carla’s distribution and shipping processes
- Assist with public and member events including planning, logistics, and hosting
- Development and implementation of systems that benefit Carla’s workflow (Google Drive organization/ Airtable)
- Copywriting for Carla across Carla’s platforms.
- Assist with grant writing and managing grant calendar
- Manage Carla’s member database, and maintain regular communication, meetings, and development of relationships with Carla members or prospective members
- Professional, courteous, and timely communication with writers, galleries, institutions, and peer organizations in the art community
Requirements
Skills Preferred:
- Positive attitude and ability to work well with others on a team
- Affable, enjoys talking with others in social environments
- Ability to creatively problem-solve
- Verbal and written communication skills
- General computer literacy is must
- Organized and strong attention to detail and multitasking
- Previous experience working in the LA art field + general understanding of LA art and artists and art history
- Experience with copy-editing/ grammar conventions
- Experience with Adobe Suite is a plus
- Experience with Airtable is a plus
