Description
Blum & Poe seeks a full-time Registrar with at least 3 years experience to begin immediately. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have strong organizational and multitasking skills, and be able to work well in a dynamic, multi-location environment. This person will work closely with the Exhibitions Registrar, Director of Logistics, and the Operations team.
Responsibilities
INVENTORY
- Oversee all incoming and outgoing artworks
- Manage and conduct condition reports, filing in server and updating the database as necessary
- Oversee and coordinate artwork conservation, ensure safe care and handling of artworks outside of B&P exhibitions/Art Fairs, and inform the appropriate staff as necessary
- Track artwork reserves and sales; send monthly reserve report to principal’s and relevant staff, reflect any changes in the database
- Inform relevant staff regarding inventory updates
- Conduct annual physical inventory at all storage facilities
- Organize and manage the gallery’s on-site inventory and off-site storage spaces, including incoming and outgoing inventory on a daily basis
- Manage and conduct database entries thoroughly
LOANS AND INSURANCE
- Oversee and manage loans of artworks pertaining to offsite exhibitions
- Assist in organizing and overseeing all traveling exhibitions
- Manage global fine art insurance policy
- Manage certificates of insurance
CONSIGNMENTS & RESALES
- Oversee consignments for all offsite exhibitions and general inventory, including drawing up initial consignments, managing expirations, renewals, policies, returns, and alerting appropriate staff regarding expirations and renewals
- Oversee long-term consignment agreements and renewals, as well as secondary consignments
GENERAL
- Oversee offsite exhibitions as required
- Travel to assist with exhibitions, installations, production, and site visits as needed
- Oversee production of artworks alongside the Director of Exhibition Production
- Oversee commissions including database entry, track and follow-up, and the relevant staff and clientele informed
- Oversee and generate installation manuals alongside Exhibition Manager
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Registrar at a gallery, museum or arts institution
- Bachelor’s degree
- Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Filemaker Pro
- Extensive familiarity with fine art handling best practices and condition reporting/conservation
- Must be a supportive team player, able to address new challenges and maintain a level head under pressure
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to take initiative, multitask, and work graciously in a fast-paced environment, deadline-driven environment
- Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
