Join the Women’s Center for Creative Work as we search for LA’S FEMINIST IDOLS! We’re looking for proposals for new, timely, feminist creative projects to be included in the WCCW’s curated programming for The Music Center’s For the Love of L.A., premiere on The Music Center’s social media platforms and on The Music Center Offstage: March 2021. Applications are now open for proposals for music videos, short films, zines, photo series, dance projects, or any other creative endeavor that can be presented entirely digitally in March 2021.
Applications Due: December 15, 2020
Special Online Event: January 16, 2021
Making Period: January 18th, 2021 — February 18th, 2021
Premiere on The Music Center’s social media platforms and on The Music Center Offstage: March 2021
We’d like to see any work that can be presented visually. It can be text, performance, dance, musical performance, video, photography, speech, zine, experimental, etc.
Artists should be creating work that reflects today’s questions, themes, topics, and concerns.
Artists should be people making work that contributes to Feminist thinking, questioning, and creating. We don’t know what this is, precisely–and the process of figuring it out by proposing it and discussing it is part of the adventure! (You’ll have the opportunity to briefly explain this aspect of the project in your application)
We are looking especially for works that represent the experience of gender marginalized people
After the deadline, WCCW will select 20 of our favorite candidates to move onto the next round. These candidates will be featured on WCCW’s Instagram and followers will be able to vote for their favorite applicants, in advance of a special online event of LA’S FEMINIST IDOLS on Saturday, January 16th.
During the event, our judges will select the 3 winners who will be named LA’S FEMINIST IDOLS, and will move forward to create their proposed projects.
The selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend and have a month-long period for production between mid-January and mid-February 2021, with the projects premiering on The Music Center’s social media platforms in March.
How to apply
To apply, fill out this application and submit an up to 1 minute video pitching your project by Tuesday, December 15th, at 11:59pm PST.
