M+B Gallery in Los Angeles is looking for a friendly, hard-working and organized professional for a full-time gallery Archivist position.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- retouching of digital images
- coordinating photo shoots with photographers
- responding to press inquiries as well as archiving gallery press and updated artist’s press packs and CVs
- maintaining organization of the press and image archives
- updating and maintaining the website, social media, news pages and other 3rd party sites (artsy, artnet, etc)
- creating and sending email announcements
- formatting press releases and creating checklists
- working with designers and printers on advertising and promotional materials
- assistance with art fair materials and applications
- assisting the registrar with maintaining inventory entries in the artwork inventory database
- liaising with artists for information about their artworks
- creating sales pdfs for exhibitions and fairs
- Photoshopping artworks into pictures from client’s homes
- some art handling
Requirements
We are seeking someone who is:
- energetic, dedicated, detail-oriented, highly organized, punctual, systems-oriented and a problem-solver
- takes initiative, follows through on projects, manages time and tasks well and stays cool under pressure
- willing to undertake basic and complex tasks with equal diligence
- project a positive, pleasant demeanor and enjoy working with the public as well as with co-workers
- the ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment, as meeting multiple deadlines is the standard and not an exception
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as logic-based reasoning and the ability to think creatively
- a thorough understanding of contemporary art is important
- BFA in Photography, Graphic Design, Art History or related field is preferred, but not required
Technical Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience with Mac platform and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat is a must
- Knowledge of SketchUp is a plus
