Description
Parker Gallery in Los Angeles is seeking a full-time Registrar/Operations Manager to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, highly organized, and an active communicator, frequently interfacing with gallery staff, artists, and clients. Primary responsibilities include overseeing the safe handling, packing and transportation of artworks from origin to destination, as well as day-to-day gallery operations. Prior experience working in a gallery is preferred, though we welcome applicants who are eager to define and grow into the role.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments of artworks
- Actively maintain gallery inventory, adding, tracking, and updating artworks in the database, including packing information
- Condition check incoming and outgoing artworks, confirming the accuracy of dimensions and signatures, and flagging missing information
- Oversee exhibition installation and deinstallation, hiring freelance art handlers as needed Oversee the safe handling and packing of artworks for storage/transport
- Liaise with fabricators, framers, and conservators on select projects
- Manage gallery packing and shipping supplies
- Generate consignment and loan paperwork
- Coordinate photography for gallery’s inventory and exhibitions
Requirements
- Familiarity with fine art shipping standards and best practices, including the safe packing and handling of artworks
- Knowledge of contemporary art and familiarity with local institutions
- Previous experience in a gallery setting
- Well-developed sense of priority
- Strong professional ethics
- Team player with strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
- High level organization skills and attention to detail
